History

Peggy and Friends was born out of a terrorist bomb, which exploded on the 25th August 1998 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Laura Giddings, the daughter of Tony and Mandy Giddings, lost her left leg below the knee as a result of the bombing.

The charity was a response to the lack of understanding that children and their families received in the NHS Limb Service and the large number of parents who contacted them in the months following the tragedy.

The name of the charity was taken from the nickname Laura gave her first leg, Peggy, it was her best friend, hence Peggy and Friends.

Peggy and Friends was registered on 2nd March 2000 and is run by Tony and Mandy Giddings under the guidance of Bob Senior, a chartered accountant and Geoff Wharam, a former higher education lecturer.
